Once you see them you can’t un-see them. Illustration Tropes are those ideas you see repeated over and over again, perhaps with a twist or stylistic variation, but definitely not 100% original. That’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’s part of the fun of illustrating. Like a jazz musician quotes old standards, conceptual illustrators riff on old tropes. I made this chart as a handy reference for my students in my class "Drawing Ideas: Create Conceptual Illustrations for Editorial & Beyond" on Skillshare.
